Behind the Scenes

Raised in a town of less than 200 people, bordering a 132,516 acre lake (that's a little bigger than the country of Guam), instilled a reverence for nature in Holly Ulm. She's the artist behind Pith & Pine and proprietor of its parent brand Isms. As a child, the only thing more exciting than the mobile library that came to town once a week, was the imagination it fed. An imagination said to have grown to enormous size due to the lack of boundaries instilled by coloring books. A notion fostered by the artist’s lovely little mother. Holly has been creating jack pinecone art since 2012, with the tree star art coming 2 years later. This was when she found a Native American legend, while emptying an old cabinet after her Nana's passing. It described how a Brave told Great Spirit that man had everything they could need, except the stars from the Heavens. How could he know if dreams came true from such a distance. Great Spirit responded with a vision while the Brave slumbered, showing him where and how to find the stars. It came with a message of hope, and that dreams can come true, if we're brave enough to follow the knowing voice inside each of us. We believe this is a powerful message for all humans to receive. From the stories brought back to us about these amazing talismans, we KNOW that all things are possible, if you just listen and believe.
